There are four ways how to get to Monaco: By road, by rail, by plane and finally by helicopter. The European motorway network which passes only 8km from the centre of town links the Principality to France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Benelux countries, Austria and the Great Britain. On leaving Nice airport, this network enables you to reach the Principality of Monaco, 22km away in less than 30 minutes, thanks to its own junction on one of the departmental coastal roads. When traveling by plane it’s necessary to land on the Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport. Highlight of the Côte d’Azur, the Principality of Monaco, via Nice airport (25 minutes by road, or 6 minutes by helicopter transfer) is linked daily to major European capitals and beyond to all continents. If you decide to travel by rail it’s good to know that all international trains stop at the Monaco/Monte-Carlo station. Journey with the TGVs to and from Paris takes about 5.5 hours and the Principality is connected with the „rest of Europe“ by a great number of trains heading for Toulouse to Rome. The rest of the Côte d’Azur is accessible by regional expresses.
Monaco is a real must-see and belongs among the „top-of-the-world“ destinations. It means prestige, charm and beauty but nothing is for free. Not only Monaco is one of the most expensive places of the world, being a Monegasque also resembles belonging into a close, chosen few for getting the Monegasque citizenship is almost impossible. Let’s hope that the pearl will remain the pearl, let’s hope that the history and tradition will not step aside in a favor of globalization and business purposes because the notion that international market chains like Tesco, Coca-Cola or Mc Donald’s will once take control of the Monegasque Principality is more than a threat.
